Grandson of Roswell Intelligence Officer Asks the Question No One Has Asked in The Beacon at Roswell
Jesse Marcel’s new book, with a foreword by television reporter Johnny Mann, is available now in paperback and eBook from Abstract Sight Press.
November 3, 2026 — In July 1947, Major Jesse Marcel was sent into the New Mexico desert to identify wreckage nobody could explain. He held it in his hands, and he said for the rest of his life that what he recovered was not a weather balloon. Now his grandson and namesake, Jesse Marcel, has written The Beacon at Roswell: What If It Was Meant to Happen?, which lays out the evidence and then asks a different question: not what caused the crash, but whether it was meant to happen.
The Army Air Forces had certified Major Marcel as a radar intelligence officer twenty-two months before Roswell; he knew precisely what a weather balloon and a radar target looked like. The book lays out the evidence: the debris, the reversal at Fort Worth, the diploma proving Marcel knew exactly what he was looking at, and the general who called him outstanding a year after publicly correcting him.
“I believe him,” Marcel writes. “I believe what came down outside Roswell was not made by human hands, and this book is my reasons.”
Then the book asks what no one has asked: why an object built by a civilization capable of crossing between stars would break apart over a sheep ranch at all. Drawing on radar training records, a coded diary, the symbols his father described, and eighty years of accumulated testimony, Marcel argues that Roswell was not an accident but a deliberate act — a message left for a civilization that would not be ready to read it for a very long time.
“Eighty years on, I think we are only now becoming the civilization that could,” he writes. The book arrives ahead of the eightieth anniversary of the Roswell incident in July 2027.
The foreword is by Johnny Mann, the award-winning television feature reporter who first interviewed Major Marcel in 1980 and went back to Roswell with him, interviewing him in the kitchen where he had spread the material out on the floor. “This book … is both a family history and an effort to preserve the testimony of a man who became central to one of the twentieth century’s most enduring mysteries,” Mann writes.
The Beacon at Roswell is the second edition of Marcel’s account, first published as Alien Crash at Roswell, rebuilt around a single question no one had thought to ask.
The Beacon at Roswell (Abstract Sight Press, 468 pages, ISBN 979-8-9979140-0-4) is available now in paperback ($24.99) from Amazon and jessemarcel.com. About Jesse Marcel
Jesse Marcel III is the grandson and namesake of Major Jesse Marcel, the Army Air Forces intelligence officer who recovered and examined the debris found outside Roswell, New Mexico, in July 1947. He grew up inside the story: his father, Jesse Marcel Jr., handled the material as an eleven-year-old boy on the family's kitchen floor. He has spent his life with the documents, the testimony, and the questions three generations of his family inherited. The Beacon at Roswell is the second edition of his account, rebuilt around a single question no one had thought to ask.
Jesse Marcel has appeared on the History Channel’s Ancient Aliens and History’s Greatest Mysteries and on Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries, has been a guest on many podcasts and radio shows, and has spoken about Roswell at many events, to sold-out crowds.
